PRE-CONFERENCE JAVASCRIPT FOR FILEMAKER DAY

Learn, Do (& swear), Grow: JS in FM training

Jeremy Brown

April 15, 2024 | 8:30 AM (EST)

JavaScript is an essential tool for FileMaker developers. But there seems to be a lot to learn, and that thought can overwhelm them. However there is a way forward: JS for FileMaker developers
in this all day training you’ll learn the JS you can use in any current or future app. You’ll learn how to write the code efficiently, patterns of JS IN FileMaker, and how to work with JS libraries.
At the end of our time you’ll have a set of tools, a plan, and support to continue to learn JS even as you use it.

Jeremy Brown

Business Owner

Integrating Magic LLC

After being a teacher of 15 years, an application developer at Soliant Consulting, and evangelist at Geist Interactive and Proof+Geist, Jeremy Brown has taken all he learned and applied it as business owner of Integrating Magic LLC and community shepherd of JavaScript in FileMaker. He is certified in all versions of Claris FileMaker Pro since version 12 (though he did fail the test of 13 like three times). Jeremy is now known as one of the folks who talks incessantly about using JavaScript in FileMaker. It’s the only time he really has opinions and takes a stance on methods of development. When he’s not thinking about how to grow the JavaScript in the FileMaker community or building widgets for developers, he attends Walt Disney World parks, plays with his dogs and foster dogs, and plays video games (even at his age).

We will cover the foundational importance of an Employee Handbook, what should be included in the Employee Handbook and the role it plays in the separation process. Best practices and considerations at time of separation, whether an in-person, remote or hybrid environment as well as for involuntary separations or layoff situations.

Five Fatal Financial Mistakes OTHER Business Owners Make

Deb Purvin

April 16, 2024 | 2:45 PM (EST)

82% of businesses fail due to the owners’ not understanding their financials. In this workshop, we will discuss how to identify, avoid, and address the following mistakes:
Not pricing your products or services correctly to make a profit;
Not planning for needed capital to scale;
Not recognizing the difference between profitability and cash flow;
Not building wealth as you build your business; and
Not budgeting adquately for growth.

The solutions discussed are immediately actionable to help you scale profitably. Come prepared to take notes and ask questions.

Deb Purvin

Founder, CEO

Business Owner’s MBA

Business Owner’s MBA (BOMBA) teaches business owners to scale profitably by focusing on their financials. With a simple, hands-on, immediately applicable curriculum — coupled with 1:1 coaching — BOMBA will transform your company from barely breakeven to building profits and wealth.

Despite her Dartmouth and Harvard education, and her years in banking, Deb Purvin made many costly mistakes as she grew two businesses from start-up to almost $100M in revenue, and then successfully exited both. She developed BOMBA so that other business owners would have a path to success — without the mistakes!

Over the past 20+ years, BOMBA Alumni have excelled — by scaling their businesses so they enjoy the freedom they imagined when they started their companies or by selling their businesses for more than they ever expected.

Project Roadmaps and System Integration: Using the Right Tool for the Job

Molly Connolly

April 17, 2024 | 1:00 PM (EST)

Now more than ever there are a variety of tools we can use to achieve results for our clients. As FileMaker developers we know that we can do “pretty much anything” with FileMaker but should we? And when your client is looking at expansive growth how do you help them make the right decisions in terms of integration with accounting systems, CRMs, ticketing systems, and now AI? It’s impossible to know all the technologies are out there, what you need to do is help your customer identify the results they are looking to achieve so you can work together to implement the best solutions for their organization now and in the future.
This session will talk through several techniques you and your client can use to map out the best approach for starting an implementation, addressing growth opportunties and identifying when it is time to rebuild. Examples include:
-A property management company who needs to migrate off Quickbooks to manage multiple business entities
-A manufacturing client running a database built in 1998
-A public school system running a FileMaker/web integration with up to 5000 concurrent users
The goal of this session will be for customer and developers alike to walk away with techiques to map out a project roadmap for growth as well as example integrations that can help them extend their current functionality.

Bridging the gap between user and developer perspectives, he crafts solutions that elevate businesses and delight users alike.

Beyond coding, Josh’s secret talent lies in tickling funny bones. When he’s not crafting software marvels, you’ll find him perfecting his art of laughter. One of his favorite shirts, which you might spot him wearing this week, says, ‘Irony is the opposite of Wrinkly’. While his session may not be that funny, find him among groups of other people making them laugh… or napping. Anything is possible.ords max
